Our
HISTORY
Step Into History at The Dansereau
Architecturally stunning, The Dansereau features a rare mansard roof and blends Second Empire and Italianate styles, with design contributions by renowned New Orleans architect Henri Thiberge. Originally built in 1847 for James A. Scudday, this grand mansion was later expanded by Dr. Hercules Dansereau. A beloved local physician, Dr. Dansereau would famously climb to the top of the belvedere each evening and scan the town for lights in nearby homes — a quiet signal that someone needed his medical care. In return, he’d light his own lantern to let the community know he was available for house calls.
