Step Into History at The Dansereau
Architecturally distinctive, The Dansereau showcases a rare mansard roof and a blend of Second Empire and Italianate styles, with design contributions by noted New Orleans architect Henri Thiberge. Originally built in 1847 for James A. Scudday and later expanded by Dr. Hercules Dansereau, the home has long been a part of Thibodaux’s story.
Dr. Dansereau, a beloved local physician, was known for a quiet yet meaningful ritual—each evening, he would climb to the belvedere and look out over the town for lights in nearby homes, signaling those in need of care. In response, he would light his own lantern, offering a reassuring sign that he was available to serve the community.
